What cutter type is best?

Carbide cutters are usually preferred for physically cutting through the cap (top layer) (as you’d not use a diamond on laminates).  Ensure your cutter is sharp and adjust your pressure correctly. Because the laminate is semi-rigid and hardwearing, the right tool will prevent cracking, chipping or uneven engraving depths.

What is the ideal engraving depth?

You will only need to engrave to a depth of about 0.2 mm on the standard coloured laminates and 0.6 mm on the metallics. In order to cut through the top layer and expose the contrasting base colour / middle layer.
